Larry Blumenstyk, CEP

Program Director, College Admissions Program

Larry Blumenstyk is the Director of the College Admissions Program at Learning Associates. A graduate of Cornell University and New England School of Law, this program puts Larry’s interests and talents to good use for our clients.

Larry served as a member and county chairperson of the Cornell Alumni Secondary School Committee (which is now the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network – CAAAN). As an interviewer, Larry met with hundreds of applicants and gained a unique perspective into the college admissions process. When Larry and Holly’s son began his career as a student-athlete at Cornell, attending both home and away soccer games for four years strengthened Larry’s interest in modern college life and in helping college applicants. While our daughter was a student-athlete at Colby College the experience was similar, although the locations for those four years were the NESCAC campuses instead of the Ivies.

Larry has been a Certified Educational Planner (CEP) since 2014, an exclusive designation that recognizes those who have achieved the highest level of competence in this field. Candidates are required to demonstrate their experience and professional development before being allowed to take the certification examination. Once certified, they must continue their ongoing professional development and must adhere to the highest professional standards as outlined by the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners (AICEP).

Through our professional associations, Larry attends and presents at national and regional conferences, symposia, seminars, and workshops to keep up to date on college admissions requirements and trends. He is a Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), a past member of the Higher Education Consultant’s Association (HECA), a member of the New Jersey Association for College Admissions Counseling (NJACAC) and a member of the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC). Within IECA, he has served on the Ad Hoc Business Practices Committee (2013-2014) and as chairperson of the College Subcommittee of the Ad Hoc Professional Liaison Committee. He served a term as a member of the College Committee, where he was the liaison to the LD Committee in 2017-2018 and as the liaison to the Graduate School Committee in 2018-2019. Larry has been a guest instructor at IECA’s Summer Training Institute. He has also organized and moderated professional roundtables and breakout session panels at IECA’s National Conferences, at HECA Conferences, and at NJACAC.

Larry speaks regularly to various school groups, parent organizations, athletic clubs, and others. He visits scores of colleges each year and serves on the National Admissions Advisory Board for a university in the Southeast. Whatever concerns your family has about the college admissions process, Larry welcomes your inquiry.
